The man of a 1000 suplexes, Gregory Stekker. Born into the great Von Stekker family, Greg was a child of great wealth and privilege, his family monopolized the European wrestling circuit since the early 1900's.
Gregory's Great, Great Grand father Wilhelm Von Stekker, ran a wrestling promotion out of Stuttgart in 1902, Wilhelm's son Helmet, was it's inaugural champion and was the first true rule breaker in the Von Stekker clan. Helmut moved to Frankfurt where he married young beer hall maiden and sometime Pro wrestler Ingrid Hawkschtedder, some months later Ingrid gave birth to a boy named Klaus, who at the age of 11 had his first pro match . Klaus grew up and dominated the German wrestling scene, he was married in his early teens and before long also had a son, Fritz Von Stekker. Fritz Von Stekker was the inventor of the German suplex, and perhaps the most famous post war wrestler in Germany. Fritz was a brutal opponent, feared by all who faced him , he was unbeatable in the prime of his career and he held many European titles. Fritz retired in 1970 and emigrated to Australia with his wife Hilda and baby son Gregory.
Gregory grew up in Sydney and took a keen interest in pro wrestling, in 1990 he moved to Florida and took up residence with the Malenko family under the guidance of the late Professor Boris Malenko. It was in Florida that Greg and his childhood buddy Mark Mercedes had their initial sucess as the tag team Australia Force. Greg returned to Australia and signed with the struggling WWW promotion, he quickly became that organisation's heavyweight and British empire champion. Due to the fact that the promoter and ring announcer had difficulty in pronouncing Stekker's name,he would be colourfully known in WWW as Greg Smith.
Stekker finding a lack of credible competition in Australia Greg flew to Japan and signed to the ultra competitive Pancrase X hybrid shoot-fighting league. Greg's 6 month tenure with Pancase culminated in epic battles with the likes of ultimate fighting champion Ken Shamrock. After another 6 months at Pancrase Stekker finally returned to Australia and immediately signed to IWA, where he wrestled as series of matches against his now former friend Mark Mercedes. All those bouts were knock down drag out affairs without ever finding a clear cut winner, that fued contiues to this day. In his spare time Stekker can be found at IWA wrestling school training up and coming youngsters hoping to break into the sport. The Von Stekker legacy continues this day and will surely be around in the next millenium.
