As fans in this country will know, Australian wrestling for the past 10 years has more or less been a dead industry. Though in its golden years it was described as the greatest territory in the world, live wrestling all but ceased to exist. Whatever sporadic shows were run, were done on a shoestring budget, predominately showcasing wrestlers that were out of shape and way past their prime.
However, emerging from the ashes, is perhaps the savior of live wrestling in Australia, the IWA. The IWA was the brainchild of Tyrone Townsend, a young enthusiastic entrepreneur with a passion for wrestling. Tyrone gained a thorough knowledge of the inside workings of the business whilst working as a color commentator for Mega-Pro Wrestling, and in 1997, set about to put together the finest collection of local talent this country has ever seen. The IWA, at this point is based in Sydney where the bulk of its shows take place, however as word continues to spread of a hot new local promotion, the IWA will continue to cover new ground.
