Castle on the hill - Looking across the Danube
Arriving by train, after a gruelling 12 hour trip from Budapest that included a detour in Bratislava as I boarded the wrong train, I got on a train at platform 6, rahter than getting on train 6. I was duly kicked off in the middle of nowhere by inspectors that spoke no English and then proceeded to try to find out how to get back at a little community station where no one spoke English. Considering that I can only say yes, no and cheers in Slovakian it was a little bit of fun at the station as the big guy mimes his way out of trouble.
I arrived at night with 2 American guys on the same train, we started looking for a place to stay... none. No there has to be somewhere.... none. We walked around for for about two hours in this time we work out the good looking guy is gay, he turns to us and says, well this is the gay club, I am certain to find someone to put me up for the night here, good luck guys....
OK, that leaves two of us. We continue walking to every hotel and hostel in Prague for 4 hours.... nothing. The last hostel we try the fellow behind the counter offers for us to use the shower and to leave our bags until morning. Good idea, so we dump our bags and go out drinking... bad idea.
We go drinking until all the clubs close at 6am, then we conduct an early morning sight seeing tour until 10am, then head back to the hostel - no rooms. Bugger.
The clerk calls around, no rooms anywhere. Double bugger.
By this time we are feeling the effects of lack of sleep for two nights (we had both been out the night before last as well) and we were drunk at 10 in the morning.
Last resort we grab our bags and start hiking out of town to the camping field, the fellow I am with has a one man tent, I just need to sleep, badly.
We stagger out of town, in the last few blocks I see a sign for a hostel, unmarked on any of the maps, racing up 4 flights of stairs we find they have a domitory with 2 beds just vacated.
We book in and crash, unchanged sheets, in full clothing I think we were both asleep even before we hit the bed.
Relief.
