Conan Stevens in Vienna

Here I went to Vienna with Maggie, a friend from Bratislava, Slovakia. We don't get snow in Australia so to have a chance to play with some was fun.

It was interesting to go with her because she told me about the first time she came to Vienna with her mother when the Iron Curtain came down.

They went to a supermarket and she was stunned, her words were 'Oh my God.... what is all this...?'

Being from the communist side of the Berlin wall, and yet only an hour away from Vienna they had not seen a western style supermarket before.

I saw an older style supermarket, in Budapest, it looked like an army surplus with the local brands all greys and greens, and not many choices. The bright coloured western brands stood out a mile.

Was a little bit depressing to see it and imagine the old time queues and shortages.
