The HBO TV series pilot that was auditioned for and filmed recently has passed approval amongst the heads of programming at HBO. The series has the green light so you can expect a medieval slaughterfest in the best traditions of the book series anytime soon(ish). So why is Conan excited about this....
.... well the fact that there is a 7 1/2 foot tall knight in the series who is basically an sadistic genius. Ser Gregor Clegane whom I wrote about saying I would love to cast for this role. It seems that I am also a fan favourite for this part. And in a recent email from a fan of the book series Well, Peter Dinklage was the fans` choice for the role of Tyrion,
and the producers duly obliged and offered him the role. So they are
certainly aware of the fans` opninions.
Also, the two main producers of the whole series, David Benioff
and Dan Weiss, happen to frequent that site that you gave me the link
too (above). In fact, they even ask the fans to post casting suggestions
there.
So some good omens there. Fingers crossed eh!
It has been widely conjectured that I already auditioned for this series on the fan sites in a role that I was not really suited for. I am still going to neither confirm nor deny this rumour but I will say that those who are following developments closely will have a pretty accurate idea of the truth of this matter. So now I will have to find an agent who can get onto this, if I am not contacted directly that is. I started the ball rolling in March 2007 by writting the article stating why I would be a good choice for Ser Gregor, this was picked up by some fans of the book series and with several email exchanges and a rather timely 'heads up' from a few fans it now looks like I could get a shot at the part. Slowly, slowly works the film industry. Finally I have to give a big thanks to all the fans supporting me and especially those who took time to write, with any luck we'll be able to secure this role.
